About DITO Social Welfare Association
DITO Social Welfare Association, India, is an extension of the DITO Foundation, Netherlands, which has a compassionate presence in India, Nepal, Thailand, Senegal, Cambodia, and Tibet. Established in 1996, DITO remains a non-sectarian, impartial, and non-governmental organization committed to bringing meaningful change to vulnerable communities.
DITO stands for “Drop In The Ocean”, symbolizing our belief that even small acts of kindness can create waves of transformation. Over the years, we have dedicated our work to girls’ education, women’s empowerment, medical care, water and sanitation programs, and various social impact initiatives aimed at improving quality of life.
Since 2016, we have been officially registered in India as the DITO Social Welfare Association. Our operations are guided by an independent and responsible Board of Directors, ensuring transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability in all our projects.
With a deep focus on community development, DITO continues to work closely with local partners, volunteers, and supporters to create opportunities, uplift underprivileged groups, and build a more equal and hopeful society.

We reiterate our values and emphasis on ‘praxis’ to bring forth positive changes within the poorest of the poor community. Our values have a strong base that stands on ‘ equality, humanitarianism, solidarity, camaraderie’ to end the sufferings of the have-nots.

DITO stands for Drop In the Ocean. We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean, but the ocean would be less without the missing drops. DITO stands for the poor, believes in their dignity, and respects their opinion and democratic thought processes to bring changes within the society.
DITO believes in charity as a means and not as an end. It dares to reach out to the unreached, imbibe hope and positive thinking, and instills the values to maximise opportunity. DITO imagines an equitable and inclusive society, imagine a society where women can stand shoulder to shoulder with man, don’t ask for favours but dare to demand their rights.
DITO is an action to bring hope to those dwindling minds. It is a game changer, a catalyst to create a society based on opportunity while restoring its dignity.
