STEM for Her: Empowering Girls Through Education and Innovation

The DITO Social Welfare Association, a nonprofit organization based in Kolkata, West Bengal, has always been at the forefront of driving impactful initiatives to empower communities. One of its flagship projects, STEM FOR HER, launched in the academic year 2023-24, aims to bridge the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education for girls. With a focus on fostering curiosity, innovation, and skills, this project is transforming lives in the Howrah district.

STEM FOR HER began with three schools in Howrah, introducing STEM-focused learning opportunities to over 250 girls. The project’s goal was to make STEM education accessible, relatable, and engaging for girls in government schools, where such initiatives are often rare.

From hands-on workshops to interactive project-based learning, students embraced the challenge, unlocking their potential in these traditionally male-dominated fields.
