Illness is universal, health care is not. But We Can Creat A World Where Health Care Is Within The Reach Of Everyone
The Last Mile Health Care delivers affordable and accessible healthcare to rural communities across West Bengal. In many remote areas, the absence of quality medical services weakens people’s health-seeking behaviour, limiting the impact of the Government of India’s vision for Universal Healthcare. Without a truly pluralistic healthcare approach, this vision often remains unfulfilled.
The Last Mile Health Care bridges this gap by reaching the most underserved corners of rural Bengal. Each unit is staffed with qualified doctors, healthcare professionals, social workers, and supported by a mobile pharmacy carrying nearly 200 essential generic medicines.
Currently operating across nine locations in Howrah district, the initiative offers general medical consultations at INR 50, along with medicines—ensuring that cost never becomes a barrier to basic healthcare.
The Last Mile Health Care provides affordable healthcare services within the reach of rural West Bengal. The gap in accessibility of quality healthcare services in remote areas reduces the health-seeking behavior of the population. The concept of Universal Healthcare – as one of the important strategies of GOI, loses its meaning as there is no pluralistic healthcare agenda.
The Last Mile Health Care reaches out to the remotest corners of rural Bengal with its health care services, manned by qualified doctors, health care professionals, social workers and a mobile pharmacy having an array of about 200 kinds of generic medicines. The project currently runs at 9 locations in Howrah district. The organisation provides general medical consultation at INR 150 and free medicines for 15 days.
To date, The Last Mile Health Care has successfully reached out to more than 8000 patients, and conducted more than 5400 Capillary Blood Glucose (CBG) tests.

About DITO's health checkup camps
DITO continues to strengthen community health through a range of accessible and compassionate healthcare services. Regular general health camps are held in JHowrah district, offering screenings and treatments for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and thyroid disorders, along with support for general health concerns. Essential medications are provided at minimal cost to ensure that underserved individuals receive timely care.
Specialized eye check-up camps are organized at regular intervals, offering consultations, basic treatments, and the provision of medicines and spectacles. These initiatives are further supported through collaborations with the Hope Kolkata Foundation and other partners, reinforcing DITO’s commitment to improving eye health for marginalized communities.
DITO also conducts non-invasive anaemia detection camps, focusing on marginalized women and schoolgirls. These camps help raise awareness about anaemia and promote early detection to improve long-term well-being.
Dedicated ECG testing camps promote heart health by aiding in the early detection of cardiac concerns. Gynaecological screening camps provide vital assessments to identify reproductive health issues, improving treatment outcomes through timely diagnosis.
In addition, capillary blood glucose testing camps empower individuals to better understand and manage diabetes by increasing awareness and providing accessible screening opportunities.
Through these diverse and impactful initiatives, DITO continues to promote holistic health and well-being across the communities it serves.
